Garuda Indonesia was officially declared a five-star airline by Skytrax on Thursday in London along with other prominent carriers such as Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Qatar Airways, Asiana Airlines, All Nippon Airways and Hainan Airlines.
Skytrax is a global airline review
and ranking consultant that conducts annual surveys in 410 airports worldwide
According to Skytrax CEO Edward
Plaisted, the rating was given based on Garuda's general excellence in
in-flight service, as well as its services on the ground at the airport.
"The fact that the majority of
Garuda's passengers travel in economy class shows its excellent standard in
quality as well as consistency, and this contributed a lot to our audit
result," said Plaisted.
The five-star rating is understood also
to have taken into account Garuda's plans to increase its service in 2015 by
transferring its operations to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport's Terminal
3 to offer a more convenient experience for passengers. The national flag
carrier also plans to increase its fleet to 194 aircraft with an average age
below five years.
Following a shareholder meeting
(RUPS) on Friday, Garuda Indonesia has also announced that M. Arif Wibowo will
replaced Emirsyah Satar as the airline's president director.
Emirsyah has resigned from his top
post at Garuda, three months before he was due to end his term in March of next
year.
