Batukaru Temple

Pura Luhur Batukaru or Batukaru Temple is a temple in Tabanan, Bali, Indonesia. Located on the southern slope of Mt. Batukaru Bali's second-highest volcano, the temple is one of nine kayangan jagat (directional temples) meant to protect Bali from evil spirits.

Pura Luhur Batukaru Temple is one of the six directional temples on Bali that are believed to protect the island and its people from evil spirits. Pura Luhur Batukaru protects Bali from the West and was originally built in the 11th century. This is an especially sacred site, even by Balinese standards and all visitors must carefully read and abide by the temple rules posted clearly at the entrance.
